Novgorod is one of the oldest Russian cities. It is situated in Northwest Russia near the sources of the River Volkhov in the vicinity of Lake Ilmen. Novgorod is the cradle of the Russian state, home of important Russian democratic and republican traditions, and a spiritual and military stronghold of Orthodox Russia. Medieval Novgorod was one of the largest European centers of enlightenment and culture. Nowadays it is a modern town with a well-developed economy, social services and infrastructure. At the same time Novgorod is a city of internationally significant architectural monuments.

The history of Novgorod dates back about 1200 years. The first mention of Novgorod, found in chronicles occurs in the middle of the 9th century. Many of the chronicles and select archaeological finds from Novgorod are exhibited in our numerous museums. Novgorod is built on the famous trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks. So all those wishing to retrace this route should include our city in their tour of Russia. If you ask me to describe Novgorod in only a few words, then those words would probably include ancient, beautiful, clean, and peaceful.

A good geographical location, a mild climate, and the beauty of the surrounding landscape make our town an attractive place for rest and creative work.

A large number of historical monuments of old Russian architecture from the 9th-17th centuries and old cultural traditions attract numerous tourists. Interest in the city increases when people learn that some of the old cathedrals in Novgorod are on the UNESCO World Heritage list . People who love history can visit the Novgorodian Kremlin (1044), St. Sophia Cathedral (1045-1055), (1045-1055), and Yuriev Monastery. , They can see the famous collection of Novgorodian icons, the Millennium of Russia Monument. Our guests will visit the open air Museum of Wooden Architecture "Vitoslavlitsy", , they will take place in participate in folklore festivals and ceremonies, go to the concerts of classical music or see a play at the drama theater, and will meet with Novgorodian artists and masters of arts and crafts.

It is very easy to get to Novgorod  - the transportation is very well organized. The fact that Novgorod is close to Moscow and St.-Petersburg makes our town attractive for foreign tourists from all over the world. You will be offered Russian cuisine and national drinks at cafe and restaurants in Novgorod. Tourist companies will organize interesting programs and tours.
