Special exhibition of the copies of the murals - for the first time in the history of the Novgorod museum!!!

The exhibition contains over 40 copies. Its aim is to acquaint a visitor with the collection of the Novgorod museum, with methods of copying of the artists of different generations, with the history of the copying of the Novgorod frescos, and to tell about copying as activity which was developing and got recognition in the 20th century.

Opening hours: 10.00-18.00, closed on tuesday, last thursday of the month.

18 August 2000
In the Novgorod museum there was opened a new exhibition of the Honorary Artist of Russia, Boris Nepomniaschy known for his famous graphic illustrations of the world literature masterpieces. The opening of the exhibition is the gift for the artist’s anniversary.

Larisa Novikova - a theater artist
The Museum invites you for exhibition of a master of theater decoration and costume - Larisa Novikova.

After graduation from the Leningrad Institute named after Repin, in 1959 Larisa was invited to Novgorod by V. Ephimov, the chief director of the Novgorod Regional Theater.

She had worked in this theater for 16 years and was a principal decorator of 53 performances. Her sketches for decoration of Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" and Goldoni's "Tavern-keeper" were a part of the All-Soviet Union exhibition of theater and cinema artists in Moscow in 1967.

Many of her paintings and graphic works enriched the collection of the Museum and numerous private collections. Following her will her inherits gifted over 200 of her works to the Novgorod Museum.

You can see this unique collection until 26 of April in the principal building of the Museum in Kremlin, every day but tuesday and 30 March.

"The Saviour-on-Nereditsa church", the conference
On December, 1-2, 1999 the conference "The Saviour-on-Nereditsa church" took place in the Central Museum of Andrey Rublev. At exhibition of documents from the museum collection about the fresco painting of the church was opened in conjunction with the conference. The conference was organized by the Institute of Medieval Christian Culture & the Central Museum of Andrey Rublev. 22 papers were presented, including:

  • Lidov A. M. "The Sixwinged Upward of "deisus". About the Symbolical Idea of Olicey Greechin's Alter Barrier."

"Russian Kremlins", symposium
On November, 23-26, 1999 the symposium "Russian Kremlins" took place in Moscow. More than 60 papers were given during the discussion. Computerized copies of I. Aivazovskiy's works
In December, 1999, an exhibition of computerized copies of I. K. Aivazovskiy's works, arranged by the Interregional Center of Non-Material Culture (Saint-Peterburg) was opened in the exhibition hall of the Desyatinniy Monastery.

The exhibition of V. A. Fedorov's works
On November, 18, 1999 an exhibition of the old Russian artist V. A. Fedorov's works was opened in the exhibition hall of Desyatinniy monastery. The exhibition of almost 80 objects includes painting, drawing, some lacquered miniatures, and icons.

The exhibition of E. N. Ivanov's works
On November, 19, 1999 a personal exhibition of more than 150 works of the Novgorod draftsman & painter E. N. Ivanov opened in the museum. The exhibition coincides with his sixtieth birthday.

The exhibition of B. Nepomnyatshiy's works
On November, 20, 1999 the exhibition "The subjects of World Literature, Reflected in the Drawing of Russian national artist B. Neponyatshiy" was opened in the museum of Fedor Dostoevsky in Staraya Russa.

The exhibition "Sweden & Novgorod"
The exhibition "Sweden & Novgorod" was opened on November, 12, 1999 in the exhibition hall of Novgorod Museum. The Swedish Ambasador of Russia, the Swedish Minister of Trade, the Mayor of the City of Novgorod, and representatives from regional and city administrative offices were in attendance at the opening. The exhibition, curated by the Swedish Institute, includes the copies of the documents relating to the history of Novgorod from the Stockholm archives, from the Royal Library of Sweden, and from State History Museum in Moscow. The exhibits illustrate the relations between Sweden and Russia from the 10th C. to 20th C. The exhibition will be on view in Novgorod from a month and a half, before traveling to several Swedish cities.
